Smartphone Women: Shopping With The Rich and Mobile

Like other retail segments, the affluent are  leading the way in adopting new habits using their smartphones for mobile commerce.  In plain English, those higher income folks have more smartphones and are using them to research and make purchases online.

Thanks to eMarketer, below is a list of shopping activities for which they value the smartphone. I personally have done everything on that list with my iPhone. Naturally, women shoppers are a large part of this multi-tasking mobile commerce world. These activities really point out the importance of marketers making sure their websites are optimized for mobile viewing, the growing reliance on apps for shopping, and how coupons and marketing information are part of everyone’s retail habits.

According to a spring 2010 survey by PriceGrabber.com, 13% of all US web-enabled mobile users reported purchasing online, up from 10% in 2009.

Based on a report from The Luxury Institute, affluent and ultra-affluent mobile users are more likely to make purchases from their mobile devices. One in five respondents with incomes of at least $150,000 said they did so at least rarely, and among users with net worth of at least $5 million m-commerce was even more popular.
